Spotlight: Basically highly progressive in his first two seasons over fences and he reappeared with an eyecatching effort in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham (2m4f, soft) two weeks ago, staying on into sixth of 12 after he'd been a detached last at halfway; 2-2 at about 2m6f; on the shortlist.
Spotlight: Twice runner-up over fences from his three visits here, including to Bhaloo in March; 2m5f winner in the mud next time and, following wind surgery, respectable second when he reappeared over 3m at Wincanton three weeks ago; stable form is a big plus.
Spotlight: Won chase debut in October 2024 and when he clicked again it was in extraordinary fashion in the Greatwood Gold Cup here (soft) this March, coming from way out the back on his step back up from 2m to 2m4f; up 6lb but remains of interest, particularly over this new, longer trip.
Spotlight: 2-5 last season over fences, with both wins from the front in 2m4f handicaps (good/good to soft); there are more chases to be won with him but he's unraced over this far under rules and that's a niggling worry.
Spotlight: 9yo who is very lightly raced but has had five wins, three of them on seasonal openers; back today from another break (including third wind surgery) and it's also notable that he won over the Newbury fences in December 2023 (rallying strongly over 3m) and went well long way in a 3m2f race here last December; considered each-way.
Spotlight: Rallied to win this race (good to soft; 2lb higher today) last year despite slow jump at the final fence; nothing of that ilk before or since, given a crack at the 4m Scottish National in April when last seen, but he's dangerously handicapped in this bid to repeat his greatest triumph.
Spotlight: Much improved over fences for new yard last season, including three wins at up to 3m, and he returned to action 19 days ago with a Kempton second which was easily his best effort over hurdles; seriously considered.
Spotlight: Tongue-tie and wind surgery seemingly helped last term and he won three handicap chases in a row, latterly in smooth style over an extended 2m7f at this track (5lb higher today); not disgraced on Cheltenham reappearance (20-1) five weeks ago and could be a lot more competitive this time.
Spotlight: Rather an all-or-nothing profile over fences but one of his two chase wins was at this track (2m4f in March; from Scarface); cheekpieces second time when he pulled up at Ascot four weeks ago, reportedly slipping at the third fence and never travelling; needs a career best; peak efforts on good ground.
Spotlight: Far more mixed fortunes last term in his second chase campaign, the clear highpoint being his win at Haydock (2m, soft) in January; Wetherby third (2m3f) four weeks ago was a satisfactory return from wind surgery but he's not proved himself beyond 2m5f, including after three attempts at 3m+.
Spotlight: Won at Galway (2m6f, good to yielding) in September and comfortably at Downpatrick (2m7f, yielding) 11 days later; while his sixth of 18 at Cheltenham last month was even better form, despite possibly being stretched by 3m1f, it also showed that his British mark (unchanged today) may be too demanding.
Spotlight: Ran near his best only once in four starts last season, pulled up in good handicaps on last two outings; not the only one in his stable to have had such problems last term and he is edging down the weights.

Scarface represents Joe Tizzard, who's been in blinding form, and Hunter Legend was eyecatching with his late work in the Paddy Power Gold Cup. Preference, however, is for EYED, who made great advances last term as a chaser and could be set for further improvement following the solid effort on his recent reappearance over hurdles. King's Threshold, another who now has a run under his belt, is feared most. Last year's win in this race is the plus point for Wiseguy, while Booster Bob also demands a mention.[Richard Austen] Show less
